There are three types of Wills, each with distinct requirements to ensure their validity: Holographic Wills: These are entirely handwritten by the Testator and signed at the bottom. While Holographic Wills were more common in the past, they are now rarely used. Military Wills: These are dated and signed at the bottom by the Testator but do not need to be handwritten or witnessed. The Testator must be an active member of the Canadian Armed Forces. Non-Holographic Wills: These are dated and signed at the bottom by the Testator in the presence of two witnesses, who must also sign the Will. All parties must be present and observe each other signing. Non-Holographic Wills are the most common type of Will.

No, you can create a Codicil to your Will, which outlines any changes or additions, and the Codicil must meet the same formal requirements as a holographic, military, or non-holographic Will. You may also include a reference to a Memorandum for distributing minor personal property. This Memorandum can be updated over time; however, it is morally, not legally, binding.
No, it is not required to use a lawyer, but it is highly recommended to ensure that your Will, Enduring Power of Attorney, and Personal Directive are properly drafted and executed in compliance with the relevant legislation.
