Xiaoting (Penny) Yuan is a Juris Doctor graduate of the University of Calgary, currently completing her articles at Skyline Legal Group LLP. Prior to law school, Penny worked as a paralegal across multiple law firms since 2017, assisting with and supervising over 1000 real estate transactions and building hands-on experience that she applies every day in her legal practice. Her earlier Bachelor of Law degree from China gave her a rigorous grounding in legal principles that distinguished her throughout her career.
Her areas of focus include real estate, corporate, commercial, civil litigation, and family law. Penny is known for making complex legal processes clear and approachable — whether guiding a first-time homebuyer through closing or helping a new business owner navigate incorporation. She is particularly passionate about using AI-assisted tools to help clients better understand their current legal situation, empowering them to make informed decisions with confidence.
Penny has a strong interest in legal innovation and takes an active role in developing systems that improve efficiency and the overall client experience at the firm. She believes that a modern legal practice must continuously evolve to better serve its clients.
Having immigrated to Canada from Shanghai in 2013, Penny understands firsthand the challenges of navigating a new country and legal system. This experience gives her a genuine empathy for clients — particularly newcomers to Canada — who are taking important legal steps in an unfamiliar environment. She is proficient in English, Mandarin, and Shanghainese, and is fluent in Cantonese, making her an accessible and trusted resource for clients across a broad range of language backgrounds.
Outside of work, Penny is an avid athlete with a passion for running and swimming. She also enjoys snowboarding, skating, board games, and spending time with her family.
